Job Descriptions

Here at Taylor Corporation Ltd we have a wide range of employment opportunities.   We employ up to 200 people during the harvest/packing season (Feb - June) .  Jobs available during this time are described below.  For more information please send us an email

Thinning
Thinning takes place during November and December.
Thinning involves removing some of the smaller apples by hand to allow the remaining apples to grow bigger by harvest time. This is an outdoor job and can be physically demanding. Its easy to learn how to thin properly, we will provide full training, no experience required. 

Picking
Fruit pickers take fruit off trees that meets certain size /colour /maturity /quality standards. Fruit is picked into a bucket strapped to the shoulders. Buckets are then emptied into fruit bins which vary in size. Work is evaluated by the quality controller or orchard supervisor. Pickers must be fit and have good vision.
The work may involve use of ladders or elevated work platforms. Fruit picking is usually paid on a piece work basis (price per bin). Piece rates usually reflect the degree of difficulty of the work.

Forklift Drivers
Forklift Drivers are required to carry out a range of tasks during the apple packing season.  Forklift Drivers must be OSH certified and.  A light practical assessment of all drivers is carried out prior to employment. 

Grading
Available during the packing months (Feb - Jun), grading is an important job and requires great care and responsibility.  Graders are responsible for ensuring the apples have reached export standards, discarding any defects. Grading apples is not an easy job, it requires someone who is a quick learner with an eye for detail.   Reliability is a must for this specialised position in the packing line.


Packing

Available during the packing months (Feb - Jun) and include Tray/Carton FillingTray Supplier and Stackers.

Tray/Carton Fillers are responsible for ensuring fruit is correctly positioned


in the tray and placed into the carton in the correct manner.  They are also responsible for ensuring any defect fruit is rejected.

Tray Suppliers are responsible for loading the correct trays into the grading machine and ensuring that tray lines are adequately filled at all times.

Stackers
are required to load the fruit cartons onto a pallet ready for shipping.  This is a physical job and requires an element of strength and fitness. 


Quality Controllers
Quality Controllers Perform quality checks on packed and unpacked fruit in accordance with our Quality Control Manual.  Quality Controllers must be able to correctly interpret the Grade Standards and variety lineups.
and inspect product in accordance with the required sampling procedures.  They must also be
qualified to identify pests commonly found on pipfruit and know how to inspect fruit for pests and ensure that correct market segregations take place in response to finding a quarantine pest.
